How I Survived My Midlife Career Change
I would be lying if I said it was easy, uneventful or fun.
Closing a business would be the last thing I would ever wish on anyone to experience. For me, it was the first business I had owned outright as an entrepreneur. It was successful in the beginning and we did rather well for a number of years. Then things started changing in the world and technology, social media and digital news gathering started chipping away at our small-town weekly local community newspaper.
I thought the first bad year was anything but the start of a trend. By the time we were well into our third year with the revenue numbers getting smaller and smaller and operational costs continuing to climb, something had to give. When we decided to close the business we made an announcement and set a window of eight weeks to our final issue. It went by fast but gave us a chance to notify everyone who needed to know.
We told the landlord, utilities companies, suppliers, advertisers, customers and distributors. We set cut off or shut off dates for everything from insurance coverage to internet and lights. We were really going to shut the doors and walk away from our business - the one I had owned for 12.5 years and worked at for a total of 16 years including my tenure as owner. I saw the logic in what we were doing but we really did not have a back-up plan.
That's when it started to get scary.
"Surviving Midlife Career Changes" tells the story about how both my wife (Brenda) and I got through our business closure and transitioned into new careers doing two things we had already dabbled in as hobbies. The eBook reveals how you can unlock your workplace potential by showing you that even when you may not know it, you could have the solution sitting there waiting for you to discover.

The Hidden Talent
sWhat neither of us realized at the time was that those hobbies of ours were not only going to unlock our future - they were going to open doors we did not see were there. If you are about to go through a third quarter transition from a downsizing at work or because you just don't feel like working where you are anymore, you have a tremendous amount of potential as a mature worker.
